Inauguration of Department
We extend our deepest gratitude to Chief Minister Sindh, Mr. Murad Ali Shah, for gracing the inauguration ceremony of our Nuclear Medicine and Theranostics Department. His presence underscores the government’s commitment to advancing healthcare in Sindh. We also sincerely thank Prof. Saeed Qureshi, our esteemed former Vice Chancellor, for his visionary leadership in making this department a reality, further solidifying our institution’s reputation for excellence in medical education and research.
Our History
For many years, Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) has been a beacon of hope for cancer patients, providing state-of-the-art treatment options aimed at improving patient outcomes. The university’s unwavering commitment to this cause reached an important milestone with the inauguration of the Comprehensive Cancer Centre on April 16, 2025. This visionary project initiated by Professor Dr. Muhammad Saeed Quraishy (TI) former Vice Chancellor of DUHS, aims to deliver advanced cancer care that is both high-quality and affordable, housed under one roof to ensure accessibility for all.
The journey towards this goal began earnestly in October 2021 with the establishment of Pakistan’s first public sector Gamma Knife Radiosurgery unit. This was a pioneering step, marking DUHS’s commitment to adopting cutting-edge technologies for cancer treatment. In November 2022, the foundation stone was laid for the extension of civil work dedicated to the Comprehensive Cancer Centre, setting the stage for a holistic approach to cancer care.
The Comprehensive Cancer Centre itself is a meticulously designed ground plus two-story building. The ground floor hosts three major departments: Gamma Knife Stereotactic Radiosurgery with on-site MRI for precise planning, Radiation Therapy department equipped with Pakistan’s first MR- LINAC for precise radiation treatment of various cancers, and the newly launched Nuclear Medicine and Theranostics department. The first floor accommodates the Medical Oncology department, which is bolstered by an onco-pharmacy and surgical-oncology clinics. The second floor houses a large auditorium designated for in-house academic activities, underlining the university’s commitment to continuous learning and innovation.
Statement of Purpose
