World’s First Intercontinental Tri-Partite Telerobotic Surgery
We are proud to share that Prof. Asif Chaudry, visiting faculty at Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), played a pivotal role in a groundbreaking surgical milestone — the world’s first Intercontinental Tri-Partite Telerobotic Surgery.
This historic procedure was conducted collaboratively by CUHK Medicine (Hong Kong), Renji Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (China), and Imperial College London (United Kingdom). Surgeons operated simultaneously from London and Shanghai, while the patient was in Hong Kong, achieving seamless surgical coordination across three continents.
With a distance of 20,000 km bridged and a latency of just 80 milliseconds, this achievement redefines what’s possible in the future of robotic and telemedicine surgery.
DUHS is honored to have its visiting faculty at the forefront of this innovation.
