About the Basic Biological Manufacturing Facility
The Basic Biological Manufacturing Facility (BBMF) is for anti-snake venom sera production existing in DIABAR premises followed by development & formulation of Antivenom Polyspecific Immunoglobulin against different species of venomous snakes (Cobra, Krait, Saw-Scaled Viper & Russell Viper). In this project DIABAR is involved in venom isolation and processing, immunization of horses and various in vivo and in vitro quality control and stability testing following the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines. VCPL is a nested facility for the collection and processing of venom to serve as raw material provider and as bio-bank of big 4 which has been used for the immunization of horses to collect hyper immunized plasma. One of our prime target is to expand and sustain a mutually productive engagement with the local community by increase the bulk production of HyperImmunized Plasma at DIABAR-Basic Biological Manufacturing Unit in order to produce cost effective finished product (DOW sera) as per demand of downstream processing unit- DUHS. This locally produced biochemistry can be an uninterruptible source for the continuous supply of Anti snake venom to manage snakebites cases in the community.
The BBMF facility is comprises of 2 laboratories;
- Plasma Collection and processing laboratory (PCPL)
- Venom Collection and Processing Laboratory (VCPL)
