About the Certificate in Health Professionals Education at DIHPE

Recognizing the growing need for faculty development in Health Professions Education, the Dow Institute of Health Professionals Education (DIHPE), Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), offers the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PM&DC) recognized Certificate in Health Professions Education (CHPE). The six-month program is designed for medical, dental, and allied health faculty to strengthen their competencies in teaching, learning, curriculum development and assessment. Through interactive learning experiences and in class activities, the program equips participants with the knowledge and skills required to enhance the quality of health professions education and contribute to educational excellence within their institutions.

The Dow Institute of Health Professionals Education (DIHPE), Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), is recognized for its expertise in faculty development. As a testament to its commitment to educational excellence, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was established between DUHS and the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) to promote collaborative faculty development initiatives, including the Certificate in Health Professions Education (CHPE) program.

Aim

The program equips participants with the knowledge and skills to enhance teaching, learning, and assessment practices within health professions institutions and to apply fundamental educational principles in the training of undergraduate and postgraduate students. It also fosters a cohort of health professions educators who can effectively advance their roles as teachers, mentors, and contributors to educational excellence.

Course Outcomes

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  1. Plan teaching sessions by developing appropriate learning objectives, lesson plans, and educational strategies
  2. Demonstrate effective teaching and facilitation skills in classroom and clinical learning environments
  3. Demonstrate effective communication skills and provide constructive feedback to the students
  4. Develop quality tools for the assessment of knowledge, practical, and clinical skills
