About the Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene at SDCP
BS DCP – Dental Hygiene program is a bachelor level 4 – year degree program. It is a taught program augmented with the hands – on practical in the primary operating domains of dental care. During the program, the students are taught all the dental auxiliary procedures including patient record keeping, reception management, patient history taking, oral hygiene instructions, health education and promotion, non-surgical dental and periodontal prophylactic and preventive therapies, dental radiography, bio-hazard management, sterilization, infection control in dentistry. The graduate of this program is known a Dental Hygienist.
Who is a Dental Hygienist graduated from Dow University of Health Sciences?
A Dental Hygienist after finishing the program are trained to perform the primary periodontal and dental procedures both in the communities and at chair-side. Such procedures include: periodic dental examination and screenings, scaling and root planing, tooth polishing, pit and fissure sealants, atraumatic restorative treatment using hand instrumentations, fluoride applications in high-risk caries children and other non-invasive dental procedures that do not require anesthesia, needles and sharp instrumentations. They are eligible to independently work in any form of a para-dental practice, out-reach community dental and clinical preventive services. They can also work in coordination with specialist dental surgeons and under supervision can perform non-invasive basic clinical procedures.
