End date

The Department of Emergency Medicine, in collaboration with the Neurology team, successfully conducted a series of CME sessions focused on the use of TPA (Inj. Alteplase) in the management of ischemic stroke. These sessions aimed to build the capacity of the ER team to effectively identify and treat ischemic stroke patients within the therapeutic window, ultimately saving lives and preventing long-term disability.

The first session was held on Tuesday, 22nd April 2025, followed by the second session on 24th April 2025 at the Seminar Room – ER. These sessions were led by Dr. Inam-e-Khuda (Consultant Neurologist), Dr. Ayesha Abbasi (Head of Department, Emergency Medicine), and ER Faculty Members.

The objective was to enhance the skills of the ER team in early recognition and timely intervention for ischemic stroke patients using TPA, as part of the department’s Continuous Medical Education (CME) initiative. This effort aligns with our commitment to improve emergency care outcomes and build clinical competency.

We express our heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Dr. Khursheed Samo – Medical Superintendent, DUH, Prof. Dr. Jahan Ara Hassan – Pro-Vice Chancellor, and Prof. Mohammed Saeed Quraishy T.I – Vice Chancellor, for their unwavering support, encouragement, and dedication to professional development and excellence in emergency care services.

Special participation by Mr. Riaz Hussain, Chairman of the Welfare Committee, further strengthened the session, as he reaffirmed his commitment to patient care by ensuring that non-affording patients will have access to TPA without any delay through the ER Life-Threatening Welfare Fund. This assurance helps eliminate financial barriers to critical treatment for stroke patients.

This educational initiative contributes directly to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Goal 3 – Good Health and Well-Being, and Goal 4 – Quality Education.
