The Department of Oral Pathology and the Science of Dental Materials at Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) organized an inter-college quiz competition for second-year BDS students, themed Dental Quest: Exploring Oral Pathology & Science of Dental Materials, on Saturday, November 16, 2024. The main organizers of the quiz competition were Prof. Dr. Sofia Ali Syed from Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan Institute of Oral Health Sciences, Dr. Faiza Amin and Prof. Dr. Shazia Akbar Ansari from Dow Dental College, and Dr. Madiha Pirvani from Dow International Dental College.
The competition began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the National Anthem. A total of 27 participants, forming nine teams from each dental college of DUHS, competed in the quiz. In the first buzzer round, three teams were eliminated. The final round, which included both rapid-fire and individual questions, was contested by six teams.
The team from Dow International Dental College secured both first and second positions, while two teams from Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan Institute of Oral Health Sciences shared the third position. Gold, silver, and bronze medals, along with cash prizes, were awarded to the top scorers.
The event was graced by Prof. Dr. Amynah Charania, Principal of Dow International Dental College, and Prof. Dr. Naresh Kumar, Principal of Dow Dental College. Dr. Madiha Pirvani, Prof. Dr. Shazia Akbar, Prof. Dr. Sofia Ali Syed, Dr. Faiza Amin, Vice Principal of Dow Dental College, and other faculty members and students also attended the competition.
Prof. Dr. Amynah Charania congratulated all the winners and participants. The competition concluded with a vote of thanks from Prof. Dr. Sofia Ali Syed, who praised the organizers and participants, acknowledged the Vice Chancellor’s support for the competition, and proposed that these academic activities be held annually to promote knowledge sharing and teamwork among students.
This event aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
