The Vice Chancellor, Dow University of Health Sciences, Professor Masood Hameed Khan has been awarded Tamgha-e-Imtiaz by Government of Pakistan, in recognition of his dedicated and meritorious services. |
He did MBBS from Dow Medical College in 1978 and than received FCPS, FRCP (Edin), FRCP (London) and PhD (Hon). He joined Sindh Government in 1982 as Assistant Professor and than in 1996 became professor of Medicine. |
He became first Vice Chancellor of Dow University of Health Sciences in 2004 and for initial one and half years also performed additional duties as principal Dow Medical College. |
He has 37 published research articles and is author of books on ECG and diabetes. He was editor of CPSP research journal for nine years and got it Indexed for International recognition. He is on the editorial board of “Medicine International” and a book of Clinical Medicine. |
During the short span of four years he has developed the university with full devotion. At the time of the university establishment in December 2003, there were only three constituent institutes. DMC, SMC and OICD, but now 18 new institutes have been established and are functioning for human resource development and community health care, besides academic excellence these include Professional Development Centre, New Medical College, Dr. Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan Institute of Oral Health Sciences, separate institutes for bachelor courses in Nursing, Medical Technology, Dental Technology, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, MBA in health care, hospital administration & pharmaceutical sciences courses, doctorate in pharmacy (Pharm-D), and MPhil leading to PhD in Basic Medical Sciences, separate institutes for diabetes, liver and GI diseases, infectious diseases and artificial limb centre have also been established to provide community health care. Many other departments are about to be completed, including Jinnah Jenome Centre. |
Fully equipped modern research and clinical laboratories have also been established besides Internet digital library and computer learning centre for the teachers of all colleges in Karachi. |
In consideration of his mammoth contribution in training the Dow University charter and executing his vision and mission for the development of the newly established university with extra ordinary pace and standard he has been awarded Tamgha-e-Imtiaz. |
