Persons with disabilities face overwhelming barriers in education, skills development and daily life. They also face multiple social, economic, physical and psychological problems hampering their freedom of movement in society.
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), or physiatry, is a branch of medicine dealing with functional restoration of physical and / or mental disability. Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation under umbrella of Dow University of Health Sciences in Karachi started in 2007. The vision at IPM&R is to make a difference in the lives of people with disabilities through multidisciplinary rehabilitative care to restore fullest possible, physical, mental, social and economic independence
A multidisciplinary team approach for care and service is the basis of rehabilitation treatment. Multidisciplinary rehabilitation refers to the fact that many different disciplines work together toward a common goal. The team comprised of allied health services of Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Prosthetics & Orthotics, Special Education, Speech and Language Therapy, Cardiac Rehabilitation, Neuro Psychological and Vocational Rehabilitation for management of disabilities.
Occupational Therapy promotes health by enabling people to perform meaningful and purposeful occupations. These include work, leisure, self care, domestic and community activities. Occupational Therapists help their client work towards a more independent life with the feeling of accomplishment.
IPM&R is proud to introduce the very first batch of Graduate Occupational Therapists and hope that the vision of the IPM&R is achieved through these rehabilitation members. We wish this pioneer batch all the best in their life
