DR. ISHRAT UL EBAD KHAN INSTITUTE OF ORAL HEALTH SCIENCES (DIKIOHS) has been established at the Sindh Medical College Campus. The building is over 150 years old and has a glorious history, its interior has been completely renovated according to modern standards and specific training requirements of the institute. This institute currently has:

  1. The Dental College for imparting under-graduate dental education leading to the degree of Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), fulfilling the requirements of the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PM&DC). Training in all Basic and Clinical Dental sciences, and Community Dental Health is provided under the Semester System. Currently there are departments of Oral &Maxillofacial Surgery, Prosthodontics, Oral Pathology & Oral Microbiology, Oral Medicine, Periodontology, Oral Biology and Tooth Morphology, Sciences of Dental Materials, and Community Dentistry.

 

Each department is headed by a subject specialist with supporting staff. This college is one of the three in the country which has been permitted to enroll 100 undergraduate dental students every year.

b) The Dental Hospital. With 125 dental chairs, has Nine Out-patient Departments namely Oral Diagnosis, Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Radiology, Periodontology, Prosthodontics, Crown & Bridge, Orthodontics and Operative Dentistry, Procedures including extraction of teeth, filling, root canal, cappingĀ  and emergency oral treatment is offered. The clinical work at the hospital is augmented by best practice, good sterilization protocols and requisite gadgetry. All its departments are provided with material and equipment, which are further provided to patients at minimum cost.

c) Post Graduate Training and Research Center of DIKIOHS is providing fellowship (FCPS) Part II training at the Departments of Orthodontics, Prosthodontics, oral surgery and oral
dentistry, after being recognized by College of Physicians & Surgeon (CPSP).

The university has also started a three year postgraduate program, leading to the degree of Master of Dental Surgery (MDS). Multidisciplinary approaches are integrated to offer program leading to MDS in various specialties.

SCHOOL OF DENTAL AUXILLARY SCIENCES of Dow University of Health Sciences was established in 2006 to produce Dental Technologists, hygienists and other Dental Auxiliaries to meet the demands of
new and more sophisticated Dental Care system in Pakistan, besides providing trained manpower to ever increasing Dental Surgeons.

Presently two year diploma courses, i.e. for Dental Hygienist and Dental Technician are being offered with an option to enter in bachelors degree program for another two years after qualifying the diploma.

Dow University is the only Institution in Pakistan to provide Degree Courses in Dental auxiliaries in addition to teaching and training courses at the biggest Dental Institutes of Pakistan, Dr. Ishrat-Ul-Ebad Khan Institute of Oral Health Sciences. The curriculum of International standards is being adopted. Students of Inter Science (Premedical) with min. 60% marks are given admission on merit after the entry test.
